Martha’s Kitchen has risen to the challenge to provide meals to the hungry of our region during this time of Covid-19. We have had to make all kinds of changes to our operations to allow us to keep up with the 70% increase in demand for meals. We have installed a large freezer in our parking lot to help hold the needed food.

As many of our regular volunteers have been forced to “shelter in place” during this time, we made some new friends throughout the community and some folks who are unable to work during this time have been coming to help us.

To keep our volunteers socially distant, we are using volunteers Monday through Friday in the mornings in addition to Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. This allows us to have fewer people in the room and to keep people farther apart while making sandwiches, cutting fruits and vegetables, and more.

Congregate meal service has been replaced by “to go” meal service since early March 2020. We have made significant increase in our sanitation processes and received a complimentary deep cleaning of
our kitchen and facilities by Detail Pro’s San Jose as well.

To all of those who have reached out to help us during this extraordinary time, we say “thank you” from the bottom of our hearts. Martha’s Kitchen will continue to rise to the occasion and meet the needs of our community during these hard times. We are able to meet these needs thanks to the many wonderful volunteers and donors who contribute their time, treasure, or talent to help us make it happen. Thank You!!!

Sharing a wonderful video and story  by YouTube videographer Mier Key

"Eating Twinkies With God: We don't need to look far and wide for God. He's in every one of us and in every thing that we do. Whether you believe or not, we all can agree that by helping each other, each good act that we do makes this world a brighter place. Let us rise to the occasion and be kinder to each other, to help one another. We are all on the same team."

Spring Newsletter - cOVID-19 Alert

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for meals has risen substantially. We need your help to keep up with this increased need for meals and food.

Some of the homeless shelters we serve are now keeping their residents “sheltered-in-place.” Other day-centers are reporting an overwhelming demand for food due to school closures along with newly unemployed and furloughed workers. These numbers keep increasing daily.

Silicon Valley is one of the wealthiest places on earth. Some of the greatest needs are in our own backyard.

Can you help us feed those in need with dignity? We need your financial support to continue our mission the hungry throughout 60 locations in counties, not just here at 311 Willow Street.

This unprecedented increase demand for meals means that we’ve had to hire additional staff to prepare and deliver meals throughout the region.
Bottom line: we are facing an increased cost of $75,000 a month.

Please donate today. Every bit definitely helps.

Three Questions

1/13/2020

As we begin a new year, we are pondering over the following three questions:

Question 1:  Had you been a German Christian during World War II, would you have taken a stand against Hitler?

Question 2:  Had you lived in the South during the civil rights conflict, would you have taken a stand against racism?

Question 3:  When your grandchildren discover you lived during a day in which 1.75 billion people were poor and 1 billion were hungry, how will they judge your response?

The first two questions might not be so bad, since those choices were not ours to make, and we’d like to think we would have made the right decision.  However, the third question just might keep you up at night.

We are given an opportunity to make a difference during a difficult time.  We were created by God to do great works.  He invites us to outlive our lives, not just in heaven but here on earth.

Help us in our mission to end hunger, and be
the example you wish to see in the world. (And become a hero in the eyes of your grandchildren.) Join us as a volunteer or a donor in fighting hunger, right here in our own backyard.  You can make a difference.  It's that simple.
