Martha’s Kitchen board member Archie Moore recently founded Archie’s Army, Inc. The whole idea was to pick up homeless men and women from different homeless encampments to bring them to soup kitchens and other service agencies. With a 10-passenger van donated by the County of Santa Clara, Archie’s Army brought its first 10 clients to enjoy a nutritious meal at Martha’s Kitchen last November 7, 2017. The following day he brought more clients, this time an hour earlier to allow them to take a shower through the courtesy of Dignity on Wheels which also offers free laundry.
We laud Archie’s efforts to bring the homeless to Martha’s Kitchen so that they can enjoy a free hot meal in a clean and welcoming environment. We encourage every group who brings food to city parks and encampments to feed the homeless to bring the folks to places like Martha’s Kitchen instead. They will be treated with dignity and respect by our staff and volunteers. They can take advantage of free showers, laundry and health services on Wednesday afternoons. Martha’s Kitchen co-hosted a fundraising Gala Concert with Hunger at Home on November 10, 2017. This was the second gala Martha’s Kitchen co-hosted with Hunger at Home. H@H Executive Director’s Madison Nguyen, former San Jose Vice-Mayor, spearheaded the preparations supported by Martha’s Kitchen’s dedicated group of volunteers.
The Gala Concert started off with a fabulous cocktail party presented by Bay Area hotels and venues such as Center Plate @ Levi’s Stadium, Marriott, Hilton, Doubletree and Team San Jose. Martha’s Kitchen also had a food station that showcased our chefs’ skills. |
